koukou's sustainability pledge ūüĆé

Have you ever wondered why it's so important to shop more sustainably?

Buying a £10 t-shirt from primark might fulfill your instant desires but what about the bigger picture? With the fast fashion industry being the worlds second biggest polluter - it's really important that we address where we buy our clothes from, who they're made my and what they're made with!!

As you guys know Sustainability is SO important to me, that's why my t-shirts are made from Organic Cotton and are 'Climate neutral’. But what does that actually mean tho?

Crucially, they are manufactured solely using sustainable energy generated
from wind and solar power, and by producing T-shirt’s this way we are taking immediate action to combat climate change.

Secondly, they have a low water footprint. It can take more than 20,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of cotton, equivalent to a single T-shirt and pair of jeans. My T-shirt’s are manufactured in a region that receives up to 95% of its water from the monsoon rain.

The company who makes my t-shirts - EarthPositive - has a ‚ÄėNo Airfreight‚Äô policy. Meaning they do not transport¬†their¬†goods by air, instead they use containerised ocean shipping, and therefore the carbon footprint generated by transporting the¬†apparel to Europe, is negligible by¬†comparison.

The cotton used is 100% organic cotton, meaning the use of nasty chemicals that can severely harm the health of farmers and their families are banned.

The ink that my designs are printed with are plastic-free, vegan water based OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified inks.

Lastly, they have specifically chosen to work in regions where organic cotton is planted and harvested by hand, without mechanisation, and because organic farming does not use petroleum based chemical fertiliser, pesticide or herbicide, it is less reliant on fossil fuels.

I think all of this is pretty incredible, and shows you that sustainable fashion CAN be done! Therefore we need to make sure we are holding larger fashion companies accountable for not making any effort to save our Earth and protect the people who make our clothes.

Alongside our brilliant t-shirts, the way that koukou operates as a company is 100% focused on having as minimal waste as possible. All of our packaging is made from recycled materials and is recyclable, - so you can easily dispose of it tooūüíó
